Travel & Transport

There are various travel and transport schemes to help if you need it.

Travel to Hospital Appointments

If you're referred to hospital or other NHS premises for specialist NHS treatment or diagnostic tests by a doctor, dentist or another primary care health professional, if on certain benefits, you may be able to claim a refund of reasonable travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS).

Train

Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card: If you're on Universal Credit, you may be eligible for a travel card giving 50% off your travel costs for several months, apply through your Work Coach.

You can get up to a third off train fares with various types of railcard.

Bus

£2 max for single journeys

You can take a single journey and pay only £2. If your current ticket is less than £2, it’ll stay the same price.

The Bus Fare Cap Grant scheme is a Government funded scheme being introduced on most single (including Child and Student) bus journeys across England from 1st January 2023 until 31st October 2023.

See the Stagecoach web page for further information on journeys around West Sussex.

See here for other bus scheme help :

If you're of state pension age, you can get a bus pass for free.

If you're disabled then you may be eligible for a disabled person's pass.

Blue Badge Scheme

If you have visible or non-visible disabilities, you can travel in a car either as driver or passenger and park closer to your destination when displaying your Blue Badge. Apply here

Flexible Support Fund

The Flexible Support Fund, available across the UK through your local Jobcentre/Jobs and Benefits Office advisor or work coach, may be able to help you with extra costs associated with getting into and starting work. It can include travel expenses to attend an interview or tools and clothing/uniforms to start work.

It is a discretionary scheme so you don't have a right to it, even if you qualify. Any financial help will be given as a grant so you won't have to pay it back. Ask at your local JobCentre Plus.
